“Nintendo constantly works on hardware,” said Nintendo’s Shinya Takahashi. This year at the 14th British Academy Games Awards, Nintendo was the center of attention for all the right reasons, they were the recipient of three awards on the said occasion. They received awards for the success of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, however, it was overshadowed because of Nintendo’s Shinya Takahashi announcement that gave everyone a surprise.
The general manager of Nintendo’s Entertainment Planning & Development Division Shinya Takahashi spoke to the BBC, saying that :
Nintendo constantly works on hardware, so we have been doing research and development, so you may see the new system sometime in the future.
But you could say Shinya Takahashi is merely stating the obvious; no doubt that companies such as Nintendo actually are constantly working on new hardware. Systems such as the Nintendo Switch were in the works for many years before their release. And to add fuel to the fire, some projects don’t even get launched for that matter.
So keeping all that in mind, we could take this tease with a pinch of salt. However, the company certainly has managed to achieve a great success with Switch. Remarkable how Switch unifies the handheld and home console into one single platform, slightly odd as to why Nintendo would produce another system focused on either of these two sectors. But we speculate that the system which Shinya Takahashi has teased us about refers to something totally different and possibly groundbreaking.
What do you think it could be? Another dedicated handheld or home console system or maybe a Wii 2? Is Takahashi referring to another “Classic Edition” release, perhaps based on the Game Boy or N64 ?
