Sony released their classic PlayStaion console just in time for Christmas. The Classic PlayStation was launched on December 3. It has 20 ‘generation defining’ games right in their original format that are pre-loaded into the system. The console costs just $100 (£76).
Sony has kept the overall look of the PlayStation the same as the original. Sony also has made some upgrade, the console is 45 percent smaller than it was back in the day . It uses a virtual memory card to save your game and most importantly connects to modern HDMI outlets. And the system comes with two PS1 era replica controllers. However, old PS1 games won’t be playable in the new release as the console doesn’t take disks and it is limited to the 20 loaded games, but with Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, Ridge Racer Type 4, Jumping Flash and Wild Arms included. So you’re getting the best games PS1 has to offer .
The other 15 games are going to be released in due time on the PlayStation Blog – the site also explains:
Almost 25 years ago, the original PlayStation was introduced to the world.
Developed by then Sony Computer Entertainment, it was the first home console in video game history to ship 100 million units worldwide, offering consumers a chance to play games with real-time 3D rendered graphics for the first time in their own homes.
Long-time fans will appreciate the nostalgia that comes with rediscovering the games they know and love, while gamers who might be new to the platform can enjoy the groundbreaking PlayStation console experience that started it all.
All of the preloaded games will be playable in their original format.
I know a few people who still have their original playstation, gathering dust in the corner of the room while they wait for the games to become relevant again. This is the moment they’ve been waiting for!
